ADVANCED METERING INFRASTRUTURE (AMI) PROJECT
This year, the Elk Grove Water District (District) is staring a multi-year project that will install AMI infrastructure that provides continuous and real-time water meter consumption information to District customers and staff. AMI consists of two parts; The backbone communication antennas and software, and the SmartPoint AMI sensors attached to the individual water meters. The SmartPoints relay water consumption information back to the District data collection servers via radio, eliminating the need for monthly manual meter reading. The consumption information will then be made available to each District customers. This year the project will be limited to installing the backbone communication infrastructure and AMI system software and will begin to install SmartPoint AMI sensors on commercial meters as funding is available. This project will continue until all induvial water meters in the District Service Areas have been outfitted with AMI sensors.
